X GENERAL CONGRESS ON THE HISTORY OF NAVARRE: “CIVIL CONFLICTS IN THE HISTORY OF NAVARRA: ECHOES OF 1521-1522”.

PRESENTATION

Pamplona, 7 to 9 September 2022

The Society of Historical Studies of Navarre presents the 10th edition of the General Congress on the History of Navarre.

It will be held from 7 to 9 September 2022 and aims to be, once again, a place of personal and intellectual encounter for all historians and cultivators of the discipline who have Navarre as the subject of their research.

The proposed theme is: Civil Conflicts in the History of Navarre: Echoes of 1521-1522. Conflict is consubstantial to societies, and in this respect Navarre was no exception. Throughout history, different conflicts have developed that can be understood as a civil confrontation between supporters of different political or socio-political options. These confrontations remain today in the indelible traces they left behind, either in the natural heritage or in the memories, evocations or signs, present in our written, built, immaterial heritage…, realities with which, on many occasions, our ancestors wanted to clearly transmit a political, philosophical or religious option.

The 10th General Congress on the History of Navarre aims to analyse these internal conflicts, playing with the adjectives “civil” and “uncivil”, without fear of analysing the violent and cruel behaviour of our ancestors or, on the contrary, their more civilised, tolerant and constructive actions.

In this sense, the Congress aims to encourage scholars to examine the disputes and confrontations of the past with critical capacity and a renewed spirit, to learn from them and to propose a future of civic and honest understanding, based on respect and the search for consensus and understanding among all Navarrese people.
